Military Wives is as formulaic as movies go, regardless the film is surprisingly good and it uses the formula really well. However it never aspires to be anything else preventing it from becoming a classic amongst the genre.
I haven't been familiar with the true story but from the start, you just know where it is all gonna go. It still works well but nothing is a surprise because of that. It still has some great moments and a fair amount of heart
It is seriously enjoyable and it is a likeable movie with a great cast. Kristen Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan are great here.
I'm sure there are many people who will like this film. I just can't see that much greatness in it. It's formulaic and does it's best to be a lovely and charming film but it does it in such a manipulative way, and I hate it when films do that. It is still worth watching though.

Steered right down the middle by “Full Monty” director Peter Cattaneo (who could make this sort of feel-good fluff with his knickers around his ankles, and shoots it with such basic instincts that you’d almost believe he actually did), this semi-factual charmer tells the true enough story of some British army spouses who learn to sing through their sorrows. Kristin Scott Thomas belts out Yaz, Sharon Horgan lectures her about blowjobs, and it all ends with an unfussy but… it’s not bad but it’s made specifically for your mum kristin scott thomas and sharon horgan’s rapport is fundamental in keeping you engaged in the opening act but it eventually begins to stand on its own two feet. nothing special but maybe it was rock bottom expectations - the trailer really is quite dreadful - but its harmless and your granny will love it. Only complaint is Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan should’ve kissed but I guess I’ll survive. Military Wives is the most formulaic British crowdpleaser in every single way possible, as The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo pretty much repeats what he did over 20 years ago that set the mould in the first place. The film aims to be nothing more than pleasantly mild, with plot beats that you can pretty much set your watch to, but the flat direction means that there is not enough humour and charm to distract from it's predictability, not helped by a very overlong two-hour running time. IT ME. Like the character said in the film, it’s fun and uplifting. It’s very formulaic but you’ll have a good time, will find yourself laughing and crying at some points. Feel good movie about the lives and traumas of a group of Military Wives.. who came together to form a trend., quality acting and performance etc.. loved it Even having just seen the trailer I knew I would cry at this, it's classic tear-fodder. On-base life can be difficult for the wives and partners of soldiers serving abroad. Lisa has inherited the job of organising the wives while everyone is deployed but it's not an activity she's keen on, she'd rather just make it through to the other side and have her husband back. Luckily [though it seems anything but] for her Kate wants to take on a role in those duties, she's a veteran wide and has a very proper way of looking at how they should conduct themselves. The two women take an instant dislike for the other's attitude making life stressful in the social circle. … Nothing to dislike about this film, especially if you remember the programme, concert and songs it led to. Both leads are excellent and there's a great balance between the emotion and the humour. Worth seeing. Totally predictable and a bit mechanical, but some sweet, moving moments and I love Sharon Horgan. Popular Lists More.
